McCain’s Record on Veterans’ Issues: How Low Can You Go?
Watching John McCain speak at the Republican National Convention about his POW experience, we were once again completely floored by the the disparity between how poorly John McCain has served the military after serving so bravely in the military. His voting record on veterans’ issues should make any Senator ashamed, let alone one who served himself.
Disabled American Veterans is a congressionally chartered, non-partisan, 1.4 million strong organization of veterans with service-related disabilities. Their last scorecard of members of Congress on veterans’ issues came out in 2006 — John McCain scored a 20 out of 100, ranking him 459th out of the 462 members that were rated. This report came out before Sen. McCain opposed the 21st Century GI Bill, so expect his rating to fall even lower on the next ranking.
We keep asking, but we never get an answer: when will John McCain respect our veterans’ service as much as our veterans respect his? If he hasn’t done so as a Senator, how can we expect him to as President?

Some people suggest that his voting record is a direct result of him being a POW and his behavior as one. Could it be that he’s ashamed and would rather put it and all other veterans issues behind him?
