Palin talks of the “Do-Nothing Senate”. What about the GI Bill?
We’ll have more today about Sarah Palin’s speech last night, but I wanted to start with this:
A leader who’s not looking for a fight, but is not afraid of one either. Harry Reid, the Majority Leader of the current do-nothing Senate, not long ago summed up his feelings about our nominee.
He said, quote, “I can’t stand John McCain.” Ladies and gentlemen, perhaps no accolade we hear this week is better proof that we’ve chosen the right man.
Reid’s “Do-Nothing Senate” just passed the 21st Century GI Bill, a bi-partisan bill sponsored by Republican Chuck Hagel of Nebraska and Democrat Jim Webb of Virginia, which gave the first increase in education benefits to our soldiers in over fifty years and guarantees that Palin’s son Track will be given four years of college tuition without having to reenlist. John McCain, feet firmly planted on the wrong side of our military’s needs, let alone history, opposed this bill.
Nowhere in Mrs. Palin’s effectively recited diatribe was any plan for how to defeat a resurgent Taliban, how to deal with the thousands of wounded veterans that are returning from the combat zone, and how to responsibly withdraw from Iraq. Nowhere was there a plan for making our overstretched military work to better meet the demands and threats of the 21st century. Indeed, Mrs. Palin’s claim that choosing McCain is about substance would have carried more weight if she had bolstered her own bluster with substance of her own.
If you are receiving benefits from Webb-Hagel and are grateful for Reid’s helping pass this bill, please get in touch.
